Following steve567's alert below, it seems the situation with regard to the site changing to 'archive' state is not what I thought.

If you signed up to a monthly subscription, the site WILL carry on rebilling you! Please cancel your subscriptions as soon as you can.

Anyone who signed up after the site became an 'archive' will not be rebilled, site access is for 30 days.

I had expected subscribers accounts to be automatically changed. This is not the case and I apologise for not having the knowledge to make this clear in my posts.

For my part, I am perfectly satisfied to allow the billing to continue. What little you accumulate this way can go to purchasing additional material for the site. I have been with you for a long time and always look forward to your work. Waiting patiently for your full return. Cheers.

I agree with Dave whoel heartly as well. I will stick with you as long as there is new material to be had. Come back soon we all Miss you Mike. I also can't wait for Pippa's turn to take a head.

I reallly didn't want to go into this too much, but I've been very ill recently, and I'm afraid things are going to remain slow around here for quite some time to come. I simply can't spend as much time slumped in front of a computer anymore. There's certainly no chance I can produce enough stuff per month to justify an ongoing subscription.

Making the site an 'archive' seemed a perfect solution, as I could keep a tab of any new content here on the board, and folk could dip into the site whenever they liked, if they saw something they liked the look of in the updates, whenever they happened. I had assumed this change to memberships would have been done automatically. Clearly that was not the case.

As for how this site works, I see no records at all about who are members, or indeed how many members there are. That's all handled by EI admin. I get sent my cut periodically.

Even IF the onus was on me to make sure subscribers knew the score about ceasing their active subscriptions, I would still have expected all subscribers would have been sent a mailshot with an update and an explanation of their options. Can anyone let me know if this happened?

I'm very embarrassed that the site has been charging subscribers every month, and I'm concerned there may be some who haven't spotted it yet on their statements.

I have just made an 'emergency' update, and I think i can maybe find some stuff that hasn't been posted that has been hiding here and there in my backups. I'm just about to make a new post about the update.

Those of you with long memories may remember my free (Dreamwater) site, which was funded by donations. Well, it didn't really work well enough, but in my mind that was the ideal, and I'm starting to think that when I get back up to speed, hopefully in a few months time, that may be worth looking into again. More on this at the right time.
