My name is Amber, and this is my garden of anxiety.
anx•i•e•ty: n.
1. A state of uneasiness and apprehension, as about future uncertainties.
2. A state of intense apprehension, uncertainty, and fear resulting from the anticipation of a threatening event or situation, often to a degree that normal physical and psychological functioning is disrupted.
3. Eager, often agitated desire.
My artwork grows from a seed that is planted in my dreams, which vary from day to day:
The Slave: I am a Slave. A piece of property with no life of her own. Purchased, trained, restrained, put to work, punished, rewarded, and sold to the next owner. Bondage is an important part of being a slave. Being a slave means that I never know what the next moment will hold, for my only purpose is to serve the wishes of the person who owns me.
The Farm Animal: A variation on the slave motif. I’m purchased by a farmer as a head of cattle for his herd. Inspected, branded, and milked. Groomed, fed and kept as a pet. Selective breeding to strengthen the herd, and satisfying the farmhands’ urges. Cattle prods and crops to keep us in line.
The Permanent Fixture: Another variation on the slave motif. I’m purchased by an art gallery or some other establishment and installed as a living work of art or functional piece of furniture. This is my so-called “permanent” bondage fetish, including mummification, "buried alive" or encased in cement.
The Abductee: My captors get their way with me and then must get rid of the evidence. That means that I must go. Escape seems impossible.
The Hapless Victim: I am in mortal danger! How did I end up here? Sometimes an element of sci-fi or fantasy as I struggle to survive against all odds. Sometimes it is the classic “damsel in distress”, except that my hero is usually too late to save me.
Monsters: As a girl I always had nightmares about boogie monsters. As an adult, these have matured into wet dreams. Monsters are perilous and sexy beasts that take my pleasure before they take me down. Styles vary from tentacles to giant insects and arachnophilia to the strange and bizarre.
Nasties: Sometimes, I like it rougher than the samples you see here. Peril taken to it's intended conclusion. I'm working on a shark-attack comic that won't finish until I'm really finished. You'll have to join to see what I mean.
